More than writing a travelogue about Madagascar, we wanted to realize this book together with a Madagascan. A shared look on the country, the culture, points of view which differ but which complement one another....
Our wish was to open our pages to a local artist, but who ?
It is when hiking towards his laboratory in Fianarantsoa that we met Pierrot Men and discovered his incredible photographic work. We immediately offered him some pages through a report to be made together about the Community of Soatanana.
His talent, broadly acknowledged, his sensibility, his simplicity as well as his personal history, quite comparable to that of this hybrid island - with a Chinese father and a Franco-Malagasy mother -, complete wonderfully our view over this out of common island, and feed our need of meetings, broad query of our trips.

Born in 1954, in Madagascar, Pierrot Men has been a photographer for 30 years. He lives in Fianarantsoa where he manages the largest photographic laboratory on the island. (Labo MEN).
Awarded with the Leica Mothers Jones (San Francisco) prize, he has participated in several publications. He exhibits his work in Madagascar, in Europe, in Africa and in the USA.
